Mike Huckabee and White Liberal Guilt
Mike Huckabee on why the gay civil rights movement is not like the black civil rights movement:
But here is the difference. Bull Connor was hosing people down in the streets of Alabama. John Lewis got his skull cracked on the Selma bridge.
I know, what an asshole. According to him, gay people need to be beat up before he gives a levitating rat's ass about their strife.
But Huckabee himself has the luxury of living in tolerant society (or as the conservatives call it "PC"). Huckabee was born in 1955 and didn't become an adult until after the 60's civil rights movement was basically over. Huckabee is from Arkansas which was a former Confederate state. If Huckabee was a little older, he might have been one of the ones fighting against the civil rights activists. He could have been one of the ones hosing or beating blacks. But Huckabee grew up in a culture that said that that is bad. Thanks to liberals and white guilt, people are sorry for what they did to black people, but they used to not be sorry.
Of course, conservatives are still racist, but they won't (openly) resort to beating up black people. Ditto for beating gay people. But their policies result in discriminating against gays and impoverishing blacks; that's why they are still racist/homophobic.
